The Linoleum Floor Gospel

OPENING PRAYER:

Spirit of God, remind me where I was when Jesus found me. Don't let me forget the hopelessness I felt before grace arrived. Help me see others through the eyes of someone who remembers their own rescue.

READ: Luke 19:10 (NLT)

"For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost." Luke 19:10 (NLT)

This verse captures Jesus's self-described mission statement. Unlike the religious leaders of His day who avoided "sinners," Jesus actively pursued them. The verb "seek" implies intentional searching, not passive waiting. This is the heartbeat of the incarnation—God coming down to find us, not us climbing up to reach Him.

REFLECT:

Pastor Rodney Elliott shared something in this message that most pastors wouldn't share from a pulpit—the story of being passed out drunk on a linoleum floor. He said he'll never forget what it felt like to be that low, to be that hopeless. But then he said something even more important: "Jesus found me when I was that low. Jesus saved me when I was that low."

That's the gospel that's easy for church people to forget. We sanitize our testimonies over time. We talk about "making a decision for Christ" or "accepting Jesus into our hearts" as if salvation was a clean transaction we initiated. But Rodney's story reminds us of the truth: we were lost, helpless, hopeless—on the floor—and Jesus came looking for us. He didn't wait for us to clean ourselves up. He didn't require us to prove we were serious. He sought us. He saved us. He initiated everything.

Rodney emphasized that this is the heartbeat not just of the Apostle Paul, but of their church and of Jesus Himself. The mission is connecting people to Jesus and helping them become His fully devoted followers—but it starts with the seeking part. It starts with remembering that we were all on the linoleum floor at some point, and someone who remembered their own rescue cared enough to tell us about Jesus. The tragedy is when church people forget their own linoleum floor moment and start looking down on people who are still there. The 10-year vision—100 churches, 10,000 new followers, 100,000 lives impacted—only works if we remember where we came from and maintain Jesus's heart for people who are still lost.

APPLY:

Write down your linoleum floor story—the specific moment or season when you were lost and hopeless. Be honest about how low you were. Then ask yourself: who in my life right now is on their own linoleum floor? Who needs someone to remember their own rescue enough to care about theirs? Pray for that person by name, and ask God if you're the one He's sending to tell them about Jesus.

I WILL STATEMENT:

I will identify one specific assignment God has placed on my heart and take one concrete step toward it this week.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Jesus, thank You for seeking me when I was lost. Thank You for saving me when I couldn't save myself. Don't let me become so comfortable in church that I forget what it feels like to be hopeless. Give me Your heart for people who are still on the floor, and make me brave enough to reach them. Amen.

PRAYER REQUEST:

Share your prayer request and pray for others.
