What's Really Real?

OPENING PRAYER:

Spirit of God, in a world where reality blurs, attune our senses to recognize truth. Help us discern what is truly genuine amidst the artificial, especially as we seek to understand ourselves and Your creation.

READ: Genesis 1:26-27 (NLT)

Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.” So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

This passage concludes God's six days of creation, setting humanity apart as His final and most cherished work. Unlike all other created things, humans alone bear the unique imprint of God's likeness, signifying a special relationship and purpose.

REFLECT:

The game Pastor Christian had us play this past weekend, "Real or A.I.?" highlighted a growing challenge: distinguishing the real from the artificial. With images of Mount Fuji or the Aurora Borealis, our eyes were often tricked. This initial struggle underscores the message's opening point that A.I. is blurring the lines of reality, making it harder to tell what is genuine. It's easy to dismiss this as just a technological novelty, but Christian emphasized how unnerving it is when even simple visual distinctions become difficult. If our senses can be so easily deceived by A.I. generated images, how much more can our understanding of deeper truths be influenced by an increasingly artificial world? This moment invites us to consider what foundations we rely on to define "real" in our lives, especially concerning our identity and relationships, which technology often seeks to mimic or replace.
