Rescue Me

OPENING PRAYER:

Lord Jesus, I come to You weary from trying to save myself, exhausted from swimming toward safety in my own strength. Teach me the power of surrender and the grace of letting You rescue me.

READ: Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." — Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)

Jesus spoke these words to people living under the crushing weight of religious legalism and Roman oppression. The image of a "yoke" would have been familiar to an agricultural society, it was the wooden beam placed across the shoulders of oxen to help them pull heavy loads. Jesus offers to share the yoke with us, to carry the weight alongside us.

REFLECT:

Pastor Jarred’s message ended with one of the most powerful images from Peter's water-walking experience: when he began to sink, he didn't try to swim back to the boat. He didn't attempt to save himself. Jarred pointed out that Peter couldn't speak underwater, he couldn't even cry out "Lord, save me!" verbally. But he lifted his hand, a silent plea for rescue, and Jesus was right there. No hesitation. No lecture. No "I told you so." Just an immediate, compassionate rescue. Jesus was close enough to reach down and pull Peter up.

This is the invitation for every single one of us, especially those who feel like they've been trying so hard to fix themselves, to manage their own storms, to swim back to safety in their own strength. Maybe you've been trying to overcome an addiction on your own. Maybe you've been attempting to repair a broken relationship through sheer willpower. Maybe you've been working to earn God's approval, to be good enough, to finally deserve His love. And you're exhausted. You're sinking. The message made it clear: Jesus doesn't want you to swim harder. He wants you to lift your hand and let Him rescue you.

For some who heard this message, this is the moment to trust the Master for the very first time, to stop trying to be your own savior and to let Jesus be the Savior He came to be. The enemy whispers that you've run out of chances, that you've made too many mistakes, that you've gone too far. But that's a lie. Jesus sees you. He knows your past, your failures, your sins. And He's not waiting at a distance. He's close enough to reach down right now. All you have to do is stop trying to save yourself and cry out, "Rescue me." That's not weakness, that's the beginning of real faith. That's the moment everything changes.

I WILL STATEMENT:

I will trust Jesus with my next step, even when its foggy

If you've never made the decision to follow Jesus, to name Him the leader and Savior of your life, don't wait another day. Pray the prayer from the message: "Dear Heavenly Father, I know that I've sinned. I know that I've made mistakes and I've tried to do it on my own. Thank you, God, for always being there. Thank you, God, for sending your son Jesus to die on the cross for my sins. And today I name Jesus the leader and the savior of my life." Then tell someone, text a Christian friend, email the church, or share your decision by clicking this link: pathwaychurch.com/decision. If you've already made that decision but you've been trying to navigate your current storm in your own strength, identify what you need to stop trying to fix on your own. Lift your hand in surrender. Ask Jesus to rescue you from whatever is pulling you under. Then take one step toward community, reach out to someone who can walk with you, join a group, or contact us here at Pathway: pathwaychurch.com/decision.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Jesus, I'm done trying to save myself. I'm tired of swimming in my own strength. I lift my hand to You and ask You to rescue me - from my sin, from my past, from the storm I'm in, from myself. Thank You for being close enough to reach me, for never giving up on me, for loving me enough to die for me. I surrender everything to You. You are my Savior, my Lord, my rescuer. I trust You with my life.
