Message Title: Sharing Stories
Teaching Pastor: Christian Hallberg
Summary: This week, we explored the profound power of personal stories in sharing our faith. Drawing from Paul’s testimony in Acts 22, we learned that the strength of our story isn't found in its drama or uniqueness, but in the person of Jesus who saves, redeems, and continuously writes new chapters of faithfulness in our lives. We are encouraged to find common ground with others, share our "before–Jesus–after" story, and trust the Holy Spirit to work, rather than feeling pressured to have all the answers. God's heart for "the one" (Luke 15) compels us to prayerful boldness, inviting others to experience the free gift of grace and new life in Christ.
Icebreaker Question
Think about your favorite movie, book, or even a cherished family anecdote. What is it about that story that makes it so memorable or powerful for you?
Review of Last Week’s “I Will” Statement
Last Week’s “I Will” Statement:
"I will pray and share my life with my One."
- As we’ve been praying for our “one” and looking for ways to share our lives, what opportunities did you notice this week? Did you experience any obstacles, surprises, or encouragement as you tried to live out your commitment?
- Was there a specific moment where you sensed God was inviting you to be vulnerable or step out in faith? How did you respond?
Discussion Questions
1. Reflecting on the Message & Scripture
This week, we looked at Acts 22, where Paul shares his story before a hostile crowd. Instead of leading with shocking details, Paul starts by building common ground, then points to how he encountered Jesus and what changed as a result. The message emphasized that the true power of a testimony isn’t in how dramatic it is, but in how Jesus meets us, saves, and keeps writing new chapters in our lives.
- When you look at your own faith journey, what are some “before–Jesus–after” moments or ongoing chapters where you’ve seen God at work?
- Take time to reflect: Where do you see Jesus’ fingerprints in your story—even in the ordinary or unfinished parts? How does knowing your story matters to God help you see your life differently?
2. The Power of Vulnerability
The message highlighted that God meets us in our doubts, losses, and even our “boring” moments. Christian shared about his own seasons of struggle, loss, and change, and how God’s faithfulness showed up, not always in big ways, but often through community, small lessons, and grace in weakness.
- Can you share a time when you doubted, felt like your story wasn’t “good enough,” or wondered if God could use your past?
- What would it look like to be more honest about your struggles and story, with God, yourself, or others? How could opening up about your real experiences create connection and healing, both for you and for those around you?
3. Finding Common Ground
Paul began his defense by identifying with his listeners: their background, their questions, even their resistance. The message challenged us to recognize the bridges in our own stories, hobbies, struggles, family life, or past mistakes, that help us relate to others.
- Who in your life might share a piece of your story? A similar background, struggle, or interest? How could you use that common ground to build trust and openness?
- Think about one person God has put on your heart. What’s one way you could take a step toward sharing a piece of your story with them this week, in a way that feels natural and authentic?
4. The Role of the Holy Spirit
Christian's message reminded us that sharing our story isn’t about having all the answers or being a persuasive speaker. Paul simply told what he had “seen and heard.” We were challenged to rely on the Holy Spirit, not just our own preparation or confidence.
- Have you ever felt nervous, inadequate, or pressured to “get it right” when talking about your faith?
- In what ways could you ask for the Holy Spirit’s help as you look for opportunities to share Jesus this week? How might depending on God’s guidance change your approach or your willingness to step out?
5. Ongoing Redemption
Christian pointed out that God never stops writing new chapters in our stories. Even setbacks, disappointments, or seasons that don’t make sense can become places where God’s grace shows up. Like Paul, who wrote letters from prison that still impact us today, our “after” is ongoing.
- Reflect on a recent challenge or disappointment. How have you seen, even in small ways, God bringing hope, healing, or new purpose out of it?
- Who needs to hear about God’s ongoing work in your life? How can you be open to God using even your unfinished or imperfect chapters to encourage someone else?
This Week’s “I Will” Statement
I will pray and share my story with my One.
Prayer Prompts
- What prayer requests or needs do you have this week—especially related to sharing your story or loving your “One”?
- Pray for boldness and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit as you look for opportunities to share your story with someone who needs hope.
- Pray for courage and honesty to embrace your own story—including struggles or unfinished chapters—and for God to use them.
- Pray for anyone who feels their story is insignificant or too messy, that they would experience God’s redeeming love and purpose.
