The Danger of Misplaced Love
OPENING PRAYER:
Father in heaven, as I begin this time with You, open my heart to see the truth about what I'm truly worshiping. Help me to be honest about where I've been looking for life apart from You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
You shall have no other gods before me.
REFLECT:
Pastor Todd reminded us that "what you love the most will shape your life." Jacob worked seven years for Rachel because he believed she would complete him and give him the life he wanted. Like Jacob, we often look to relationships, success, or achievements to fill the void that only God can fill.
Take a moment to consider: What does your lifestyle say that you worship? Where are you spending your time, energy, and resources? These aren't bad things in themselves, but when they become ultimate things—when we ask them to give us what only God can give—they become idols that will eventually wreck our lives.
I WILL STATEMENT:
I will identify one thing I've been asking to give me life, and I will surrender it to God in prayer.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, I confess that I've been looking for life in places other than You. Help me to surrender those things to You and to find my true satisfaction in Your perfect love. Amen.
