No Ordinary Conversation
OPENING PRAYER:
Lord, thank You for ordinary days like this one. Help me come ready to notice You in the moments ahead. Amen.
“Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart. Pray for us, too, that God will give us many opportunities to speak about his mysterious plan concerning Christ. That is why I am here in chains. Pray that I will proclaim this message as clearly as I should. Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.” Colossians 4:2-6 (NLT)
REFLECT:
A server named Amber had trembling hands during the lunch rush. When a customer named Lisa noticed and gently asked, Amber hesitated—then shared that her car had broken down and she was worried about getting to class. "We'd be happy to pray for you," Lisa offered. After praying, Amber asked, "Why would you care enough to pray for a stranger?" That opened the door. Lisa replied, "My relationship with Jesus has taught me that everyone matters deeply to God—including you."
Paul describes it in Colossians 4:5-6: "Live wisely among those who are not believers and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone." This is everyday evangelism—a Christian noticing an opportunity and responding with compassion.
At its core, the gospel involves four key truths you can share in natural conversation: God the Loving Creator, humanity the Beautiful Broken, Jesus the Divine Solution, and Response the Personal Decision. These four truths flow naturally in real conversations. You don't need a script—just an understanding of the story and a willingness to share how it became your story.
Different settings call for different styles: The Story Approach (sharing your personal story). The Question Approach (strategic questions that open doors). The Need Approach (connecting the gospel to universal human longings). The Worldview Approach (showing how Christianity addresses life's biggest questions). The Invitation Approach (a simple invite to church or community).
Gospel conversation is a skill—and skills grow with practice. Start small. Mention your church. Share how your faith shapes you. Offer to pray. Simple steps lead to deeper moments. And remember: most people come to faith through a series of conversations. You might be planting, watering, or harvesting. Every step matters.
APPLY:
Pray For Your One
- 1. Ask God to make you attentive today—to notice ordinary moments where your One might be opening a door for something deeper.
- 2. Pray for the presence of mind to offer to pray for your One the next time they share a need or a struggle.
- 3. Ask God to help you grow in comfort with the four key truths of the gospel—so you can share them naturally, in your own words, in everyday conversation.
I WILL STATEMENT:
I will pray and share my life with my One
CLOSING PRAYER:
Lord, help me understand and share the simple beauty of the gospel. Give me wisdom to adapt it for different people without losing its truth. Turn my anxiety into confidence—not in myself, but in Your power through my weakness. Let my words be filled with love, wisdom, and respect. Remind me that You use ordinary words for extraordinary purposes. In Jesus' name, amen.
PRAYER REQUEST:
Share your prayer request and pray for others.
