You Cannot Walk This Road Alone

OPENING PRAYER:

Spirit of God, break through the isolation that anxiety creates. Remind me that I was never meant to carry these burdens alone, and give me courage to let others into the places I've tried to hide.

READ: Galatians 6:2 (NIV)

"Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." Galatians 6:2 (NIV)

Written to the Galatian churches, Paul's letter addresses how believers should live in community. The culture of the ancient world prized independence and honor, but Paul presents a radically different vision, one where showing weakness and receiving help isn't shameful but is actually how we fulfill Christ's law of love.

REFLECT:

One of the most vulnerable moments in the message came when Pastor Rodney Elliott shared what his counselor told him: "I've got good news and bad news. Good news: I know what you need to do. Bad news: you're going to have to be vulnerable with people." Pastor Rodney's response was painfully relatable: "I'd rather go to the dentist." Vulnerability sounds good in theory, but in practice, admitting we're overwhelmed, weak, or struggling feels like exposure we'd rather avoid.

Yet here's what Rodney discovered: when he finally opened up to people who had faith and were in his life, something shifted. He found it easier to go to God. He found encouragement that defeated the false narratives spinning in his head. He found people who could look at him with love and basically say, "I think you're a little crazy right now, that's not going to happen. I'm here for you." That kind of honesty only happens in relationships where we've built trust over time. Rodney was clear: vulnerability won't happen the first time you meet with a group. It would be weird if it did. But you have to invest energy into relationships with other believers so that when you are overwhelmed, others can help carry your burdens. This isn't optional, it's how Jesus designed us to function. Anxiety grows in isolation. It breathes when we're alone with our thoughts. Community disrupts that spiral.

APPLY:

Identify one person with whom you can begin building the kind of relationship that allows for honest vulnerability. If you don't have that person yet, we encourage you to take the step to join a small group. Rodney will be starting a new short-term starting on April 19, for everyone from all locations, to attend at the Westlink Campus at 6:30pm. It's called "The Ways of Jesus" and it will be using the TV Series "The Chosen" as a guide.

I WILL STATEMENT:

I will build my weekly rhythm of certainty.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Jesus, You walked with a community of imperfect people, and You invite me to do the same. Give me courage to let down my guard and let others see my weakness. Thank You for designing me to need others and for providing people who can help carry what feels too heavy to bear alone.

PRAYER REQUEST:

Share your prayer request and pray for others.
